Luton Hoo Walled Garden
The Luton Hoo Walled Garden was designed by Capability Brown and established by Lord Bute in the late 1760's. At the time, Bute's garden was second only to the Royal Botanic Garden at Kew.
Successive owners of the estate adapted the garden to match changing horticultural fashions, only for it to fall into decline from the 1980's. The Garden is now being restored.
Since 2012, volunteers from Harpenden Photographic Society have been recording, photographically, events and restoration work that takes place during the year. Our Photographs are used to illustrate articles, reports, posters and pamphlets used by the researchers and presenters for the promotion and support of the Luton Hoo Walled Garden
In 2017 HPS members are being requested to assist with capturing images of the projects in both Garden, Conservation and illustrating the numerous Talks that Luton Hoo Walled Garden offer to members of the public
Torben has been working hard this year digitalising some of the very large maps of the Luton Hoo Estate, the one on the staircase wall in the office for example, some 58 individual images were captured and merged together to produce a digital mapLHWG volunteers should take a look next time their in. These maps have been printed and laminated for display in the static displays in the Garden and digital images used to illustrate various talks that the LHWG volunteers run.
In addition HPS members images are being used to raise funds for the LHWG in the form of small note-lets each one having an image from the Garden as shown below
