President  - Ted French
My interest in photography started many years ago. I initially embarked on a six-year intensive black and white course at Missenden Abbey to hone my skills.  Since then with my wife, we have been on several photographic workshop holidays enjoying the social aspect together with the spectacular venues.
My preference is black and white photography and for the last 10 years I have concentrated on infrared images, having had a main camera converted to take only infrared I am a firm believer in taking images that satisfy me. I rarely, if at all, manipulate images as I like to get it right in camera. I exhibit my work at various venues and on occasions visit other local camera clubs to show my work.

Chairman & Publicity Secretary - Steve Collins
A member of The Guild of Photographers and RPS, I’ve enjoyed taking photographs my whole life, and love all styles and genres, especially street photography and macro.

My interest in taking pictures began when I was given a 35mm camera for my 21st birthday and I remember being amazed by the quality of the images it produced. Since joining HPS in 2008 I have developed an interest in a broad range of photographic subjects and particularly enjoy the continuous learning experience.

A hillwalker who carries a camera or a landscape photographer who occasionally climbs a mountain? Over the years I have graduated from the former to the latter. I joined HPS in 2013 and have learnt a lot from the speakers and competition judges since then. I previously served on the Committee as Programme Secretary for two years.

I specialise in wildlife and landscape photography and use my images to raise awareness of detrimental changes that are taking place in our environment. I have been fortunate to travel extensively with leading wildlife photographers.  I have also learnt a great deal from HPS and fellow photographers and have been encouraged by the society to enter competitions leading to photographic qualifications. I lead the Outdoor Special Interest Group for the club. I have had a camera since I was a teenager but have only become a photographer since joining HPS about 8 years ago!

Photography had long been an interest, but I found myself taking product shots for a living and setting up a studio to do it in. From there my enthusiasm for macro and portrait photography developed, but I have a broad range of other interests as well.

Programme Secretary - Brian Cooke
This is the second time I have served on the HPS committee. The first time was when I was editor of the HPS magazine ‘Spectrum’. My main interest is landscape photography, although I gained my ARPS with a panel of abstract images taken from the side of an old rusty barge in Berkhamsted. I take a lot of local images especially around Harpenden and Ashridge. My photography has been learnt mainly from attending residential workshops especially in Scotland and Northumberland.

I have studied photography for seven years. I have gained a BA(Hons). I am a Fine Art Photographer who likes to explore "what happens if...", deconstructing and reworking into photographs, manipulating my work by hand. Exploring that there is more to paper than just a printing surface...

I grew up alongside keen photographers in my family and I've always enjoyed being behind the camera. I've been a member of the club for a few of years and have enjoyed learning new tricks and tips to improve my photography. With a busy day job, I just need to find some more time to take photographs!
